RIM Aims to Reel In Devs With BB10 Preview
Research In Motion will give developers a chance to take BlackBerry 10 for an early spin. The company will soon give software makers the opportunity to use prototype devices featuring an unfinished version of the platform, a finished version of which is slated to go into general release later this year.
Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) will soon give software developers prototype devices that run an early version of the BlackBerry 10 platform.
Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) will soon give software developers prototype devices that run an early version of the BlackBerry 10 platform.
RIM is hosting a BlackBerry 10 event in Orlando in May to coincide with its annual BlackBerry World user conference. There, a limited number of developers will have the chance to tinker with the product.
The Canada-based tech company said the prototype, labeled "BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha," is not the finished smartphone intended for consumers.
"Although the device and the software that developers will see are not indicative of what BlackBerry 10 will be at launch, it's a great chance to get building and see how their BlackBerry 10 apps will run in real life," Victoria Berry, senior manager of PR and social media, developer and apps at RIM told TechNewsWorld.
The company has already encouraged developers to grab one of the 2,000 developer spots, Berry said

Nvidia's New GPUs Could Be Real Game Changers
Nvidia is promising gamers major performance improvements with its Kepler GPUs, and the boost won't be limited to full-size PCs. Its new line includes several that are compatible with Ultrabooks, which could give gaming consoles a run for their money in the living room. By some accounts, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have squeezed out what can be done graphically. With Kepler, the PC could get a jump.
HTC to shut down cloud services, asks users to download stored data
HTC has many new plans this year, one of their plan is to concentrate on less devices and make their Sense platform better, just a while back HTC Sense customers received a mail saying that their cloud services like Contacts, messages, Footprints and call history will be shut down and made offline. The heading says that they are not actually shutting the service down but renovating their cloud service or HTCSense.com.
This is the letter HTC had sent its users:
Dear HTCSense.com customer,
HTCSense.com is undergoing a renovation to improve the services and value we deliver to customers like you.
Until the new services are ready, features previously available on HTCSense.com will be shutting down. If you have been using HTCSense.com to sync your Contacts, Messages, Footprints or Call History, you can download your data through April 30, 2012. After April 30, your data will no longer be accessible and will be deleted.
Download your .zip file by following these steps:
- Visit http://htcsense.com
- Log in with your HTCSense.com username and password
- Click the ‘Download’ button in the Account Overview section
- A .zip file containing your data will download to your computer for easy viewing
If you would like phone location or backup services for your device, please visit Google Play (formerly Android Market) and download an application that best meets your needs.
If you need additional assistance, please contact HTC Customer Service.
We apologize for any inconvenience. You’ll be among the first to know when the new and improved services are ready.
Thank you,
HTC
Customers using these services are given until 30th of April to download and retrieve the data in a .zip format, after which the data will be deleted. This is really weird because of HTC is not shutting down this services and are just “renovating” it, and if modified version of these application turn up later, then would they ask their customers to again upload the data which they just downloaded? Or is HTC abandoning the whole cloud approach?
Just recently HTC announced an alliance with Dropbox which comes with HTC One series devices tightly integrated with Sense and it maybe due to that HTC might be closing those services, but again the older devices do not have this Dropbox integration. Something is missing over here and HTC really has to provide more information on this move. Well, we will update you as soon as more news about this issue comes up so stay tuned.
WELCOME
